USCIS Extends Green Card Validity for Conditional Permanent Residents Who Properly File Form I-751 or Form I-829

USCIS has begun issuing I-797 notices extending the validity of green cards for 48 months for people who properly file form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence or form I-829, Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Residence. This extended period of validity is being implemented as a response to extended processing times for I-751 and I-829 petitions, which have increased in recent months. This notice extending the validity of status can be used for work or travel by presenting the expired green card along with the I-797 receipt notice extending the applicant’s status. USCIS plans to issue notices extending the period of validity of green cards to eligible applicants who have previously filed I-751 or I-829 petitions which are now currently pending.
